Escape.cat: A digital getaway in a rural setting with October 1st as the protagonist

By 05/01/2018Uncategorized

There are still many unknowns surrounding October 1. With our Relats Oberts project , we shed light on the stories of anonymous people. On the first weekend of May, we had the opportunity to learn about a fact with many shadows: Internet censorship. Where? At escape.cat , the 3rd digital culture and creation meeting organized by Booleans in Santa Maria d'Oló. With the help of Matthias Brugger, we learned about the digital struggle to prevent/allow voting during the 12 hours of voting day. A thrilling story, worthy of the best Hollywood movies, in which Brugger explained how events precipitated following the arrests of September 20 and an anonymous and secret team of hackers was activated to achieve an effective referendum at a technical level.

The girls from Storydata we also had our space to explain the work of Open Stories. The visualization of the Twitter activity of politicians and stories of people who experienced the referendum firsthand. Six months after October 1st, it was a great opportunity to present in person again a project that we do not consider closed, but is alive and growing with the contributions of everyone who wants to share them.

Escape.cat has allowed us to get closer to disciplines that transcend data and give them body, form, and movement. All of this, in a rural setting and with a host of recreational activities.

We will certainly think about how we can be part of the next Escape.cat!
